Link expiration and disabling
You can stop a short link two ways:
- Disable (ON/OFF) — immediate, re-enable any time.
- Expiration — automatic after a set time.
Disabling (manual)
In the list click the ON (or OFF) button on the right of the link. The state flips instantly.
- ON → link works normally.
- OFF → returns 404 / "not found", doesn't count clicks.
Useful when:
- An event ended and you want to pause temporarily.
- The target URL stopped working and you want to fix it later.
- Someone is abusing the link (spam, scraping) and you want to stop it.
A disabled link stays in the list and the slug remains reserved — no one else can use it until you delete it.
Expiration (automatic)
When creating you can set Expiration to:
| Option | Meaning |
|---|---|
| No expiration | Link never expires. |
| 7 / 30 / 90 days | Expires exactly N days from creation. |
| 1 year | Expires in 365 days. |
After expiration:
- Link returns 404.
- In the list it has an Expired badge (red).
- Counts against your plan limit until you delete it.
Changing expiration
Can't be edited in the UI yet after creation. To extend, two paths:
- Delete the old link and create a new one with the same slug (only if no one took the slug in the meantime).
- (Planned feature — edit expiration, let us know if you need it.)
Deletion
Deletion is permanent:
- Link returns 404 going forward.
- Slug is released for new use (anyone can register it).
- Click history is wiped.
Use cases
- Short-term campaign (event): set expiration to the campaign end (e.g. 30 days). After ending the link goes dark on its own.
- Permanent link (business card, profile): no expiration, never turns off.
- Test: 7-day expiration + random slug, so they don't pile up.
